VCL-Gigabit Ethernet Automatic Failover / Ethernet Protection / AB Fallback Switch

VCL-Gigabit Ethernet Automatic Failover / Ethernet Protection / AB Fallback Switch are a family of Ethernet Failover Protection Switches that provide 1+1 Automatic Ethernet Failover / AB Fallback Protection between an "active” and "standby" equipment; or between “main” and “standby” networks which are connected to the network through an Ethernet interface.

This unique failover solution provides redundancy between two, “Main” and “Standby” Switches, Servers, Firewalls, Routers or any other similar terminals to provide equipment redundancy in applications which require 99.99% terminal equipment up-time. The Ethernet 1+1 failover protection automatically switches to the “standby” terminal equipment in the event of failure of the “primary” terminal equipment to ensure that the 99.99% terminal equipment up-time requirements are always being met.

The equipment is unique in another way that it is Failsafe. The equipment itself never becomes a point of failure. It automatically reverts to and reconnects to the primary link even in power down condition.

Commenting on the solution, Mr. Inder Mohan Sood, CEO said, “With customers including Power Utilities, Oil & Gas Networks, IT Data Center, Airports, Railways, Government networks using wireline, wireless / radio, and satellite communication, its use and need is growing where 99.99% uptime is mandatory. We are witnessing an increased requirement for our Failover equipment for mission critical applications”.

VCL showcases a few of the major highlights of VCL-Gigabit Ethernet Failover solution:

  1. VCL-Gigabit Ethernet Failover equipment provides 1+1 Automatic Ethernet Failover Switching / Fallback Protection between two Routers / Servers / Firewalls (Main and Standby) equipment.
  2. Allows the user to have multiple WAN interfaces with the same IP address; or use IP addresses in the same domain.
  3. Only a single set of rules are needed on the Network Interface of Firewall / Router. This reduces the number of policies that need to be applied and reduces configuration complexity and the risk of human error. WAN interfaces typically require common rule sets and polices.
  4. Fewer ports are required on the router or firewall to handle multiple ISP lines which reduces the capex cost to organisations by freeing up ports on the router / firewall for other uses.
  5. Using multiple rule sets on each individual network (WAN) interface increases the load on the CPU and RAM of router / firewall.
  6. Increased network isolation. Improves network security by limiting the number of ports that are exposed to the network.
  7. Alerts the user upon the failure of any one of the two “active”/ “primary”, or "secondary” / “standby" equipment.
  8. Failsafe. The equipment is Failsafe. The equipment itself never becomes a point of failure. It automatically reverts to and reconnects to the primary link even in power down condition.
  9. Failover on network intrusion alert: Integration with VCL-Network Mousetrap (advanced honeypot device) allows the user to failover between ISP lines / firewalls upon the detection of a network intrusion alert. The VCL-Network Mousetrap generates and sends an SNMP notification to VCL-Gigabit Ethernet Failover in the event an network intrusion / firewall breach is detected and it will result in failover to the next available line (ISP) / firewall isolating the network from the intrusion attempts and keeping the network secure.
  10. Optional management feature: Interactive Management and Monitoring using VCL-UNMS GUI: The device fully integrates with the VCL-UNMS Unified Management Software for management and monitoring the network from a single screen. The user has an overview of the network and the status of each ISP connected through the VCL Failover in real-time.
